DOWNFALL: Gutter Cleric live preview, 10pm tonight
about 3 years ago – Tue, Apr 20, 2021 at 10:22:16 AM

(all art by @evilcleverdog)

If you're interested in seeing what the Gutter Cleric can do (at first level, anyway) or you just feel like watching some actual play live, you can tune into FinnthBinn's channel at 10pm UK time TONIGHT for the first episode of DOWNFALL, a brand new Spire campaign. We've let the group have access to the character class as a sort of cross-promotion, because Downfall sounded really neat and we wanted to show it off.

In other news, we're £200 off our next stretch goal so I'm just going to assume that we've hit it by the time you read this, so: please look forward to a gorgeous, very-detailed dungeon-style map of a decrepit Red Row mansion from Alex Damaceno. After that it's a smooth seven grand to the Magister's Guide!

Judging by the art that Isa did for the characters, this is going to be one of the best-looking games of Spire ever. All my characters look like they woke up under a truck.

Magister's Guide unlocked!
about 3 years ago – Mon, Apr 12, 2021 at 04:17:24 AM

Exciting news! We've just rolled over £59,000 in pledges, meaning that all backers of this project will get PDF copies of the Magister's Guide - a sourcebook written for gamesmasters of Spire of all experience levels, helping you to get the most out of the game whether or not it's your first mission for Our Hidden Mistress or if you're a scarred veteran of a dozen shadow wars.

There's been a lot of requests for a GM's guide, and we're taking the opportunity to raise the additional funds needed to put it together as a side-effect of running this Kickstarter. We've learned a lot from putting together the equivalent section for Heart, so you can expect to see:

- How to run a roleplaying game, assuming you've never even read one before

- How to run a story game, and the philosophy of same

- How to run Spire, specifically, in terms of tone, content and pacing

- How to create NPCs that help push the story along and engage the players

- An adapted version of the Control mechanic in the Better the Devil scenario from Strata, allowing GMs to mechanically represent an encroaching threat from those in power

-  Mechanical means of furthering an agenda (taking over territory, blackmailing an official, assassinating someone and replacing them with a patsy, etc) complete with a selection of themed advances and specialised fallouts

- A bunch of random tables that can be combined to set up dynamic situations that involve the players, surprise the GM and add variety to a game

Which is a tall order! But it would definitely be useful, so we'll give it our best shot. The next stretch goal on the list is the Hive prison map, and then after that... well, it looks like we're going to have to come up with some stretch goals again. You think we'd be used to it by this point.

That's all for now. Thanks again for your tremendous ongoing support!

Gutter Cleric class art and breakdown
about 3 years ago – Fri, Apr 09, 2021 at 05:34:35 AM

We've passed the MORE ART stretch goal, so there will be MORE ART in the book, which is nice! On the subject of art, Adrian just sent through the illustration for the Gutter Cleric class, and it's very good, so please take a look:

We've put together a class breakdown for the Gutter Cleric which talks about their abilities, our design process, and why one of their starting equipment options is just a heavy book that you can hit people with - check it out on our blog.

That's all for now! Thank you all so much for your incredible support. We keep just looking at the big number at the top of the page and goggling a bit.
